Rick Riordan is an American author best known for creating the wildly popular Percy Jackson & the Olympians series, which blends modern-day adventures with ancient mythology. Born on June 5, 1964, in San Antonio, Texas, Riordan taught middle school English and history for 15 years before turning to writing full time. He began his writing career with the Tres Navarre mystery series for adults, but it was his bedtime stories for his son—who has ADHD and dyslexia—that inspired The Lightning Thief, his breakout middle grade fantasy novel. Riordan has since authored multiple mythological series, including The Heroes of Olympus, The Kane Chronicles, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, and The Trials of Apollo. Known as “Storyteller of the Gods,” Riordan’s works are praised for their humor, diverse characters, and educational value. He also heads Rick Riordan Presents, an imprint that highlights myth-inspired fiction from underrepresented voices.
