Roxanne Longstreet Conrad (April 27, 1962 – November 1, 2020), writing as Rachel Caine, was a prolific American novelist from West Texas who lived and wrote in north Texas. A trained accountant with a minor in music from Texas Tech University (1985), she began writing professionally in 1990. In addition to her successful careers in corporate communications and as a professional musician performing alongside legends like Henry Mancini, Peter Nero, and John Williams, she published over fifty novels under various pseudonyms. As Rachel Caine, she achieved New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal best‑seller status, notably for her Morganville Vampires young‑adult urban fantasy series and her adult Weather Warden and Stillhouse Lake thrillers. Diagnosed with soft‑tissue sarcoma in 2018, she continued writing full‑time until her death in 2020.
