Nicholas Charles Sparks (born December 31, 1965) is a prolific American novelist, screenwriter, and producer known for crafting heartfelt romantic novels that resonate across generations. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in Minnesota and California, he graduated magna cum laude in finance from Notre Dame. A serious sports injury led him into writing, and his first published novel, The Notebook (1996), became an instant bestseller. Sparks has since authored 23 novels—including A Walk to Remember, The Last Song, and Safe Haven—as well as two nonfiction works like Three Weeks with My Brother. Many of his books have been adapted into successful films, grossing over three-quarters of a billion dollars collectively. With over 130 million copies in print worldwide, Sparks also uses his platform philanthropically, founding a nonprofit supporting global education and donating generously to his alma mater. He currently resides in North Carolina.
