John Green is an award-winning author and one of the most influential voices in contemporary young adult fiction. Born on August 24, 1977, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was raised in Florida and later studied English and Religious Studies at Kenyon College. Before becoming a full-time writer, Green worked as a publishing assistant and a chaplain-in-training, experiences that deeply shaped his literary themes. His debut novel, Looking for Alaska, won the Printz Award and set the stage for his future success. He became a global phenomenon with The Fault in Our Stars, a poignant exploration of illness, love, and loss that was later adapted into a major film. Known for his intelligent, emotionally resonant storytelling, Green tackles themes of existentialism, mental health, and adolescence with rare honesty and wit. In addition to writing, he co-created the wildly popular educational YouTube channel CrashCourse and co-hosts The Anthropocene Reviewed podcast. He lives in Indiana with his family.
